The basic Recording Philosophy of Turtle Records is to deliver an optimal gateway between music and the listener. By using technical means and tools that are at today's 'state of the art', this gateway attempts to be completely transparent so that hopefully the audience forgets it is even there. The listener should always feel part of the 'holographic' scenery we try to create between the loudspeakers whether it is in Stereo or in Multi Channel sound reproduction.

We try to avoid boundaries of style and tradition by delivering music in the broadest sense of the word as we feel that in our modern world 'Rock' music is just as Classic as 'Classical' Music and the latter on it's turn can be just as 'groovy'. Turtle Records records music that needs to be recorded, regardless of style, form, background or commercial value.

The angle Turtle has chosen is to record all music from an acoustical standpoint, in other words the sound must exist in the 'real' world by musicians playing together in the same acoustical 'dimension'. Even synthesized sound must eventually travel through air to reach our ears and the interaction with traditional instruments can be done acoustically. This leads to a more natural mix of coloration then via electrical means in a mixing board because both instruments share the same 'air' to let the sound travel. Music is an acoustical phenomenon and the acoustical interaction between the sound of instruments in our opinion is essential to the message that musicians try to deliver to us. Whether it is 'Rock' or 'Baroque', playing it and listening to it is communication on the highest level of human accomplishments. By intensively working as producers with musicians on perfecting this acoustic interaction we create the basic atmosphere for every record even before connecting the microphones. Only when it sounds right in the studio, it can sound right on the record. When this all works, and often this is a straining and time consuming process, no effort and technical resource is spared to convert this magical 'acoustic' atmosphere to the 'electrical' dimension of the tape or disc.

'Real' sound is a complex phenomenon and capturing all musical and emotional aspects of it is a difficult, if not impossible task. Creating the sense of complete transparency in recording it, means we have to go to the ultimate limit of technical possibilities as it comes to bandwidth and resolution and we have to use all ingenuity we can come up with during the recording process. From microphones to speakers we are committed to respect all known and by long experience discovered parameters that ensure no detail is missed in the mysterious message music carries.
What we found is that preserving 'timing information' and proper 'shielding' from low level interference during the recording process is crucial for keeping the 'flow of music' in tact. Good 'time resolution' of electrical circuits and digital recording tools is a well known, but only recently mastered qualification in the sound reproduction chain and keeping out radiant pollution from our industrial outside world is a difficult and expensive endeavor.

Turtle Records operates on the forefront of all of this by using and co-developing tools that put a high emphasis on these important parameters. By doing so we are able to utilize the full spectrum and capacity new consumer media like SACD and DVD-Audio can offer us, thus capturing the message of musicians and their music in the most pure and honest way.
