Brimstone Butterfly was formed in an old slaughterhouse in Aarhus, Denmark and had right of both ambition and urge to create their own unique sound. The first album “Gonepteryx Rhamni” was released in 2001 and the single “Superwanker” made number 1 on the MTV Up North Chart. In 2005 Brimstone Butterfly released “Normality Killed The Cat” in Denmark, USA, Canada, England and Germany.

From the garage rock sensibility of The Hives and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs to the glam pop of Franz Ferdinand and the Killers, there has been no shortage of exciting new talent. The latest addition to this music club comes from Denmark in the form of Brimstone Butterfly. Culling their influences from such luminaries as Mott the Hoople and early David Bowie, Brimstone Butterfly also tips its hat to early new wave mixed with today’s appealing pop-punk sound. Imagine taking all your favourite records from various time periods and mashing them together in a blender. In essence, a very lustful hodgepodge of rock and pop music styles updated for 2005. So it makes sense that they kick off their latest release "Normality Killed the Cat" with the line "Say, what happened to your lust for life?"
The production idea behind Normality Killed The Cat was to keep it simple and raw, while the lyric universe evolves in and around normality and the "ordinary" life. The place where curiosity, inclination to learn, love and zest for life have been replaced by materialism, boredom, narrow mindedness and even cynicism, as we zap the TV between war and sports. A soundtrack for 2005 indeed!

Мне этот альбом напомнил группу Suede c диском "Head Music" (1999), а также современного Дэвида Боуи (а не раннего, как амазоновцам), а также буги Марка Болана, сыграй он их сейчас... Глэм. Если после первого раза "не пойдёт", поставьте утром, потом днём и ещё раз вечером. Дойдёт точно.
Теперь о миксе.
Альбом был издан непонятным лейблом Inzect Music ©+(p)2004 и отдан в 2005 году нашему вечному мальчику для битья - "Силверлайну" для сведения в 5.1, лично в руки тамошнему специалисту по року Крису Хэйнсу (Chris Haynes). Получили на выходе ручную работу. Это раз. Работу, методикой, похожую на сведение Ministry "Animositisomina": яркие эффекты во вступлениях и концовках (там где есть требуемые для этого и выделяющиеся инструменты) и статичный драйв (когда группа жмёт на фузз). Это два. В программе есть "медленные" вещи, и они сделаны превосходно: и с атмосферой, и с динамикой электронных эффектов. Это три.
Работа крепкая, вполне 8 баллов заслуживающая.

Основное и самое важное в диске это его аудио-визуальная проработка (после хорошего микса и музыки, конечно). Пожертвовав градусом хайреза, поместили анимационные клипы на КАЖДУЮ песню (тоже в 5.1).
Интересной мне показалась рекламная "фича" From Stereo to 5.1: кусочек одного трека, последовательно воиспроводимый с 2.0 (с ремаркой: "Так слушают музыку 99.9% людей на земле") и переходящий в 5.1 ("А это - будущее музыки"). Внушает.
All in All: очень хорошо проработанный диск, крепкий поп-рок, достойный МК микс. Рекомендую.
