Революции в музыке этот альбом не вызвал, но по уровню всех тогдашних команд под крылом Mute, был выше и перспективнее. Что нам история, вобщем, и показала.
Весь материал для дебютного (1981) альбома DM написал Винс Кларк, но уже в течение первых гастролей группы резво удалился искать сольного счастья. Не очень долго думая, он со своей землячкой (даже чуть не одноклассницей его и всех депешмодовцев, Элисон Мойет) создал следующий весьма удачный синтипоповый проект Yazoo. Эта история в МК у нас уже
представлена очень достойными дисками, как по музыке (лучше, чем этот!), так и по уровню микса (я поставил 10).
Итак, первый коллекционный набор из серийного переиздания всего каталога в 2006-7 гг. Имеем SACD (иногда CD) и видео-диск с документальным фильмом о первых шагах группы, собственно альбом в DTS 5.1, четыре бонус-трека тоже в МК и весёлое настроение от музыки тода ещё «новых романтиков».
Микшировал МК Кевин Пол без чьей-либо помощи (как в других альбомах) и, видать, только осваивался со своей ролью художника за пультом. Результат скован и несмел. Что-то помешало Полу раскидать широко и россыпью. Зажаты тылы, тема раскладки игры на клавишах одним пальцем до конца не раскрыта. Поставлю 8 баллов, оценка высокая, конечно и низкая одновременно, учитывая возможности материала.
Меж тем, набор коллекционный и серия без него полной не будет. Must have!

It's always good to know where a band came from so you can see how far they've come. Speak and Spell is really the work of Vincent Clarke, who, with Andy Bell, would later form the happy-go-lucky pop-dance megaforce Erasure. And it shows in the catchy, upbeat songs "New Life," "Boys Say Go," "Photographic," and the most famous single, "Just Can't Get Enough."
